4 Signs Something is Wrong With Your Car’s AC

Posted June 13, 2023

The most obvious sign that something is wrong with your car’s air conditioning unit is no cold air coming out of your vents. Most people are well aware of this which is why it’s good to know about other issues. There are many lesser-known signs that something may be wrong with your car’s AC system and an auto repair service needs to repair it. Here are four of those signs.

1. The Airflow

If your car’s AC system is experiencing issues, you may notice that there is less airflow coming out of your car’s vents. The air may still be cold, but you may notice that even when you crank the unit up, the airflow is less than it normally is. When you notice a decreased airflow, it’s good to get in contact with a repair service right away.

2. Coolant Issues

Another sign that something is wrong with your car’s air conditioning system is that coolant is draining from under your car. Any time you see fluids leaking from under your vehicle, you need to bring it to an auto repair service to have it inspected. They should be able to make the proper repairs and fill you in on the issue.

3. The Smell

When you turn on your car’s air conditioning system, you should not smell any strange or bad scents. If you start to smell nasty scents, such as mildew or even metallic scents, your car’s AC unit may have problems. Common reasons for a bad smell include molding, experiencing electrical issues, or it may have another problem.

4. Gas Use

According to Warner Service, it is estimated that just over 5% of the fuel that is sold in the United States for passenger vehicle fuel, is used to operate the car’s air conditioning system. As such, running the AC uses some gas. But if your fuel usage is decreasing rapidly when running your AC system, something may be wrong with the system.

If you notice any of the issues detailed above, something may be wrong with your AC. Our auto repair service can help to diagnose and repair problems with your car’s AC system. Call Real Teach Auto & Trick Repair now to schedule an appointment and to find out more.
